Everybody knows George Clooney. Everybody's seen his
movies. Everybody feasts on rumors of his actual - and alleged -
relationships. There is little new that we could contribute to satisfy
your curiosity. On a second thought, there is something....
When George Clooney's career first begun he was best
known for his famous relatives: his aunt, the legendary singer / actress
Rosemary Clooney and his actor / TV newscaster father, Nick Clooney. At
the next stage of his career we've begun noticing his charm, his looks and
his sense of humor.
So did the media. George amassed a number of glitzy
titles. He was featured among "50 Most Beautiful People in the World" by
People magazine in 1996. Just a year later - the same magazine - declared
him the "Sexiest Man Alive". He was named "Best Dressed Male Television
Star" and listed - once again by the People magazine - as one of "Top 50
Bachelors".
For a while it appeared that George Clooney is just
another movie star: a talented pretty boy.

That he is. But that's not all he is. He takes on a
variety of roles. Among his top ten achievements as an actor are
performances in such films as “From Dusk Til Dawn” (1996); “Out of Sight”
(1998); “O Brother, Where Art Thou?” (2000); “Solaris” (2002);
“Intolerable Cruelty” (2003); The “Oceans” trilogy (2001-2007); “Syriana”
(2005) for which he's won the Best Supporting Actor Oscar; “Michael
Clayton” (2007); “Burn After Reading” (2008) and “Up in the Air” (2009).
(There are rumors that George Clooney will have a starring role in Steven
Soderbergh upcoming project based on the 1960s Cold War spy show "The Man
From U.N.C.L.E.")
His involvement with independent cinema and film
production are a little less know. He and his partner Steven Soderbergh
(with whom George Clooney worked on such successful projects as "Out of
Sight," "The Good German," "Solaris" and the "Ocean's Eleven" trilogy)
have produced together several independent films which have earned
critical praise. (George has been honored with the first "Spirit of
Independence Award" of the Los Angeles Film Festival and Find Independent
(FIND).)
In a crowd of Paris Hiltons and Kim Kardashians,
celebrities for no good reason, George Clooney - and several other
notable individuals - stands out. Fame and fortune tend to corrupt people.
We often hear stories of senseless debauchery: substance abuse, vandalism,
and scandal for scandal's sake. George survived with his intellect and
humanity intact.
Here is a bit of George Clooney in his own words,
judge for yourself:
"Directing is really exciting. In the end, it's more
fun to be the painter than the paint."
Here is another, in response to the question what makes a man stylish,
George replied:
"For me, a sense of humor is number one. It's
certainly what's most attractive. It's not the first thing you notice at
21, but it's the first thing you notice now. If celebrity is a credit
card, I'm using my credit. My job is to try and find ways of talking about
issues that move us forward. I don't make policy, but I can shine a light
on faulty or good policy. The Not On Our Watch launch reached more than 9
million people. We need to focus global attention on the plight of the 2.5
million civilians who have fled their homes. Rather than talk about who
I'm dating, let's talk about saving lives."
His passion for the cause of Darfur, caused many to
wonder whether political career might be his next step. George Clooney
famously dispelled the rumors by saying:
"Run for office? No. I've slept with too many women,
I've done too many drugs, and I've been to too many parties."
George Clooney won't become a "professional"
politician but as a movie star he's earned considerable influence and uses
it in support of causes he believes in. He participated in rebuilding of
Louisiana, and was the driving force behind several successful fundraising
efforts: America A Tribute To Heroes; Tsunami Aid A Concert of Hope and
Hope for Haiti Now.
The acceptance speech he's given
after being awarded the Bob Hope Humanitarian Award at 2010 Emmys is the
quintessential George Clooney.
George Clooney earned his influence and uses it wisely.
Right now he's focused on preventing an impending political upheaval in Sudan
and working with the world's top scientists, in pursuit of immediate safety
measures. In the past he's appealed to Chinese and Egyptian officials and
addressed the United Nations Security Council for support for Darfur.

Who he is with? How long has it been already? Is he
going to get married? These are trivial questions compared with what we
know for a fact: that he values true friends and stands for causes he
believes in: fights to help disaster victims and to prevent man-made
(political) disasters before they happen. All these fine qualities
sprinkled with wisdom and humor in the exquisite "packaging" of a world
renowned movie star.... That's why we call our thoughts on him "George
Clooney Charm and Substance". To quote George once again:
"I don't believe in happy endings, but I do believe in happy travels,
because ultimately... you die at a very young age, or you live long enough
to watch your friends die. It's a mean thing, life."
Live long George, we need someone to remind
us what celebrity can be!
